The symbolism of the Golden Calf

Almost everybody has heard the story of the ‘Golden Calf’ as told in the Bible’s Book of Exodus. Of when Moses when up to the Mountain of God and the Israelites became corrupted and asked Aaron to ‘make us gods, which shall go before us’. Which then Aaron made a ‘molten calf’ of gold from their ‘broken golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters,…’. (Book of Exodus, 32: 1-4, KJV)

The big question about this story is, and always has been; is why did Aaron make a ‘calf’? Because it really doesn’t seem to make much sense when you think about it for a few moments. Even though ‘bulls’ or ‘cows’ were important to the ancient Egyptians and they are shown in their artwork, but as far as I know, there isn’t any evidence supporting that they ‘worshiped’ them as ‘gods’ as described in the Bible’s Book of Exodus.

So what gives? Why would the Bible have this story? What is the point of the ‘calf’? What are we missing here? Also, why does it seem that almost every ancient culture has some type of symbolism or iconography related to ‘bulls’ too?

The secret to understanding the importance of the ‘molten calf’ in the Book of Exodus (and also why all the ancient cultures seem to have something related to bulls in general), is by understanding the symbolic meaning to the ‘bull’ itself. In short you have to know what the symbol of the bull represents in order to grasp the meaning of the story or its esoteric meaning.

The key to understanding the symbolic meaning of the ‘bull’ is found in the Dream Vision in the ancient Book of Enoch. For those who have never read the Dream Vision or my book THE FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE OF ENOCH; The Dream Vision is an allegorical account of the history of Israel (Biblical story) that uses animals to symbolically represent human beings and human beings to symbolically represent angels. It is this ‘symbolism’ and knowing where it comes from, that is the secret to understanding the meaning to it all. (The Dream Vision can be found here:

And that is one of the big secrets of the esoteric and what everybody has been missing over the years, that the ‘key’ to understanding all of the symbolism is knowing where it comes from. And that source is the Dream Vision contained within the Book of Enoch. To help you understand what I am trying to get at here, let us go to the Dream Vision itself and I will hopefully show you where the symbolism of the ‘bull’ comes from and its deeper meaning, or esoteric meaning.

In the Dream Vision of Enoch, the ‘bulls’ represent man, man as in Adam, Eve, Cain and Able. In fact it represents everybody from Adam to Isaac as a ‘bull’ or ‘oxen’. This is the first thing to understand, all the symbolism that represents a ‘bull’ is actually representing ‘man’, not only man, but the first men.

The next important thing to understand is the event that is known in the Judeo-Christian tradition as the ‘fall of Lucifer and his angels’. To the ancient Egyptians this event was remembered as Ra coming to earth, it is also the same event in Greek mythology of Zeus and his fellow Olympians. (More details and information on this event can be found in THE FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE OF ENOCH)

This event is also spoken of in the Dream Vision of Enoch and is the one of the missing pieces that makes sense of what exactly the ‘bull’ represents and why Aaron and Israelites would have made a ‘molten calf’ of gold.

‘…I saw the heaven above, and behold a star fell from heaven, and it arose and eat and pastured amongst those oxen. And after that I saw the large and the black oxen, and behold they all changed their stalls and pastures and their cattle, and began to with each other. And again I saw in the vision, and looked towards the heaven, and behold I saw many stars descend and cast themselves down from heaven to that first star, and they became bulls amongst those cattle and pastured with them [amongst them]. And I looked at them and saw, and behold they all let out their privy members, like horses, and began to cover the cows of the oxen, and they all became pregnant and bare elephants, camels, and asses. And all the oxen feared them and were affrighted at them, and began to bite with their teeth and to devour, and to gore with their horns. And they began, moreover, to devour those oxen; and behold all the children of the earth began to tremble and quake before them and flee from them.’ (Book of Enoch, 86: 1 – 6, The Dream Vision)

Now you should begin to understand on why the symbol of the ‘bull’ is important, one it represents ‘man’, the first men that fell and became corrupted by the fallen angels. The next reason is because it also represents the one that fell from heaven and his companions changing themselves into great ‘bulls amongst those cattle’. And that is the hidden esoteric reason for the meaning of the ‘molten calf’; it represents the one that fell from heaven and corrupted mankind. This is why it was such a great insult to the Lord God of Israel and also to Moses, and why they were punished so severely. -RJ-
