A Brief History of the Origin of the Esoteric Religion

Since I have written THE FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE OF ENOCH, I have been doing some research into the ‘origin’ of the belief system known as the esoteric religion, and think I have now actually found the starting point for this system.

There is actually a place, a time, and a small group of people that we can point at and say that this is the starting point of what will one day become known as the ‘esoteric religion’. And much like my book, once you know the few missing pieces of the story, everything just falls into place all on its own.

Our starting point for the origin of the esoteric begins thousands of years ago with the legendary Library of Alexandria, not so much of the actual Library itself, but the school that it housed. This school became known as the ‘Alexandria School of Philosophy’ and was founded at almost the same time as the great Library by Alexander the Great. This school was born of the Alexander’s intention of making Alexandria the seat of his empire; he invited learned men from all nations with their peculiar notions and philosophies.

This had the effect of bringing together of Orientalists, Jews, Egyptians, and Greek thinkers and teachers. Even by today’s standards the school became eclectic in character and exhibited a great mixture of opinions of the Egyptian priests, Jewish Rabbis, Arabic teachers, and the many disciples of Plato and Pythagoras.

It is from this school that Gnosticism and the Kabbala have their origin. It is also where the esoteric religion gets their system of symbolism and allegory which lay at the foundation for most esoteric thought. This system of esoteric symbolism and the method of communicating it through the ages is a little easier to understand once you realize that some of the greatest minds in all of human history had a hand in creating it and that it is based on theories and philosophies taught at the Library of Alexandria.

Two of the most celebrated teachers of this school, (that the esoteric religion itself points at) are Aristobulus and Philo. Both of these men taught basically the same theory that is still carried into the actual practice of the esoteric today. That theory was/is “that the sacred writings of the Hebrews were, by their system of allegories and symbolism, the true source of all religious and philosophic doctrine, the literal meaning of which alone was for the common people, and the esoteric or ‘hidden meaning’ being kept only for the initiated.”

This is one of the cornerstones of the esoteric religion, that there are two stories contained within the Bible (and other similar religious texts); a literal story and meaning for the average person, and one that is told through the symbolism that is contained within the literal story.

This theory is then combined with many of the teachings and ideas about Pythagoras, Euclid, and many of the ‘mysteries’, (example; the Eleusinian Mysteries). The system also includes teachings from Gnosticism and Kabbala. With all of it being originally taught at the ‘Alexandria School of Philosophy’. This is the starting point and the place that all modern esoteric knowledge has it ultimate origin.

It is with the destruction of the great Library & School of Philosophy around 391 A.D. that all of this begins its long mysterious journey to becoming the esoteric religion. Most history books give the impression that the destruction of the great Library was a rather spontaneous event that resulted in the loss of most all the books that were inside. The truth is a little more boring, the actual fire that destroyed the Library is thought to have been a spontaneous event that was egged on by the local bishop, but most of the great books and documents were already removed by the time this event happened. It took years for the Church to come into power and the people running the Library and the school had plenty of time to take and hide the books and information they thought important. It is this removal and hiding of books, documents, maps, etc… from the great Library of Alexandria that provides the basis of, and idea of, a secret society that has hidden esoteric knowledge that is not for the uninitiated.

The actual details of how and where this information was hidden over the next few centuries is not really known by any. It is thought that most of it was preserved by the Catholic Church, private libraries, in the teachings of Kabbala and Hermetic thought, and in the highly skilled building trades, mainly stone-masons.

It is only when it is ‘rediscovered’ during the Renaissance that we can begin tracing it again. It actually becomes easier to follow as the centuries go by, once you know what you are looking for. It is this rediscovery of hidden information from the Library of Alexandria that gives birth to the Renaissance. Didn’t you ever wonder just where all the books and ideas came from? This also provides a very good example of just how by leaving out one little piece of information, you can change the whole story and make people believe something that is right and wrong at the same time.

What I mean is that the history books give us a vague description of how the Renaissance started; normally putting the idea forward that all this information came from the Arabs and was rediscovered by the Crusaders. But they never say exactly how the Arabs came to have this information in the first place, they just managed to somehow preserve it all by being a little more advanced civilization than early Europe. Once you know that this information was originally from the great Library of Alexandria and some of the greatest minds of the ancient world, it makes it very easy to see and understand the connections and why it so important.

The history books are loaded with all kinds of information and stories of how the rediscovery of this information gave birth to our modern world. The piece that has been missing is that most of this information came from a small handful of esoteric groups that had managed to preserve it. With the most important being the Catholic Church, Kabbala, the building schools & guilds, and Hermetic thought, which is known to most as alchemy, normally mixed in with ideas of wizards, magic, and hidden knowledge.

Until the Francis Bacon (22 January 1561 – 9 April 1626) (Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Bacon) most of this esoteric thought was viewed as rather unorganized and consisted of many different and diverse groups that existed independently of each other, except at the local level. The esoteric religion views Francis Bacon as a key figure in the revival of the belief and is one of the reasons why he always seems to come up in the history books, even though he never seems to have done enough to warrant so much attention.

According to the esoteric, what makes Francis Bacon so important is that he managed to bring a number of esoteric groups together or at least made them aware of each other. It is claimed that through Bacon and the Royal Society, that Rosicrucianism and early Freemasonry came into contact with each other. (The reason on why this is important can be found in THE FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE OF ENOCH.)

After Francis Bacon, starting in the mid 1600s we have the beginnings of what would later become known as the Enlightenment. It is during this time that newly created middle classes of Europe began creating small groups or societies of like-minded people, these became known as Salons and Lodges. These Salons and Lodges become the birth place for what will become known as the Scientific Revolution and our own modern world.

It is during this time that the building guilds, their Lodges, and the esoteric information they had, came to the attention of the middle classes. In short, the thinkers and followers of the Enlightenment found that the building guilds (especially the Masons) had a very highly organized system of Lodges and that they had created a very complex system of ritual and ceremony that used an allegorical or symbolic system to hide and teach all their building secrets and knowledge. Not only that, but most of the Guilds were protected by the authorities and unlike most people, could move around freely, because their building skills were needed by all.

By the late 1600s and the early 1700s, the Masons and their Lodges were basically taken over by the thinkers of the Enlightenment. It is at this time they stopped being a secret society of builders and craftsmen, but became the framework for the revival of organized esoteric religious thought. By the mid 1700s the Masons became the most popular of all and anybody who was anybody was a Mason. They also began to have an influence on society as a whole, if for no other reason than most people of influence and power were members. All of this is well known and easily found in the better history books.

The next important thing to happen is also the one that generates the most confusion about everything. And that is the founding of the group known as the ‘Illuminati’ on May 1st, 1776 by Adam Weishaupt, who was a professor of canon law at the University of Ingolstadt. He at first called it the ‘Order of the Perfectibilists’; but he soon gave it the name by which is now universally known.

There is more misunderstanding and confusion about this group than just about any other that has ever existed. And I have to be honest here and say I really don’t understand exactly why there is all this confusion in the first place. Because everything I am about to say is very easily found, if you take the time to actually go and do some reading about it.

One of the first things is that the Illuminati was not originally part of, or founded in, Freemasonry. Adam Weishaupt copied the Freemasons in order to give the new Order a ‘higher influence’. He tried to connect it to the Masonic Institution with its system of degrees, esoteric instruction and symbolism, and their secret modes of recognition. In short, he ripped off the Masons and started his own Lodge.

This is where so many make their mistake and think the Illuminati came from the Masons. The writings of the Masons themselves tell you that Adam Weishaupt was not connected to them in the beginning. In fact it wasn’t until 1777 that Adam Weishaupt actually joined a Masonic Lodge, almost a full year after founding the Illuminati.

It appears that it was at this point that Adam Weishaupt started to ‘borrow’ ideas from the Masons and started to form the core ideals of the group. Sometime after joining the Masons he recruited a Baron Von Knigge, a zealous and well-instructed Mason who joined the Illuminati in 1780. He soon became a leader, dividing with Weishaupt the control and direction of the order. It is also at this time that the core ideals of the Illuminati are formed and written down. With the primary objectives being:

      1)      Abolition of all monarchial governments and all patriotism to them.
      2)      Abolition of private property and inheritance
      3)      Destruction of the traditional family
      4)      Abolition of all religion (primarily Christianly)
      5)      Creation of a one world government

As you can see, these are the basic objectives of communism and I would argue that this makes Adam Weishaupt the actual father of modern communism. Didn’t you ever wonder why May 1st is so important to the communists and socialists? It is because it is the day that communism was officially founded in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt. With knowing and understanding this, the ‘Illuminati’ are rather easy to follow and understand.

The Order became very popular and enrolled no less than two-thousand names in its registers, among who were some of the most distinguished men of Germany. It extended rapidly into other countries and its Lodges were to be found in France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, and Italy.

In 1782 at the Congress of Wihelmsbad, it is claimed that the Order of Illuminati joined forces with Freemasonry. After this conference a number of attendees were reported to be visibly shaken by what they had heard, the Comte de Virieu, a member of Martiniste Lodge at Lyons, returning from the Congress of Wilhelmsbad could not conceal his alarm, and when questioned on the ‘tragic secrets’ he had brought back with him, replied: ‘I will not confide them to you. I can only tell you that all this is very much more serious than you think. The conspiracy which is being woven is so well thought out that it will be, so to speak, impossible for the monarchy and the Church to escape from it.” From this time onwards, says his biographer, M. Costa de Beauregard, ‘the Comte de Virieu could only speak of Freemasonry with horror.” (Nesta H. Webster. World Revolution – The Plot Against Civilization, p. 18.)

Soon after this, the Order of Illuminati came directly into conflict with the Jesuits, and with the Roman Catholic Church. The priests begin to wage an all out war against the Order and on June 22, 1784, managed to get the Elector of Bavaria to issue an edict for its suppression.

This first edict seems to have been brought upon by ex-member, Professor Joseph Utzschneider, who had quit the Order in August 1783. Just a few months later, in October, Utzschneider along with Gr├╝nberger and Cosandey, fellow professors with him in the Marianen (Marienburg) Academy and members of the Order, presented the Duchess Maria Anna with an internal Illuminati document, and a membership list. The Duchess was thoroughly alarmed and passed it on to the Duke.

Many members are arrested and were fined or imprisoned, the more powerful members are exiled on the punishment of death if they return to Bavaria. The Elector of Bavaria reissues the edict in March and August of that same year. In 1786 the government of Bavaria published the details and documents of the conspiracy. Soon after this, the Order began to decline and that by the end of the 1700s, the original group known as the ‘Order of the Illuminati’ officially ceased to exist.

The original group may have ceased to exist officially, but it and its ideals lived on. The remaining members and followers of the Order of the Illuminati just moved back into the Lodges of Freemasonry (since most were already members to begin with). They basically just hid within Freemasonry, slowly recruiting like-minded people and very simply formed a secret society inside a secret society. The next important thing is that the group learned its lesson (so to speak) and began to create ‘front groups’ to hide their actions.

They basically stay in the shadows until the late 1840s with the start of Marxism and the creation of communism and socialism as a political force. After this, they start to infiltrate Masonry as a whole and just about everything else on the planet. And as far as I can tell, over the last 150-or-so years these individuals have infiltrated and corrupted all of Masonry (to the point that I believe the Masons can’t clean it up themselves) and in turn have also corrupted everything the Masons are connected to. Most of this has been done by creating hundreds of front groups that are then used to attack each other in order to create conflict that they control and they also provide cover when something goes wrong.

I think this is why everybody has been so confused about the whole matter; the communist party is one of the primary ‘front groups’ for the group that was originally known as the ‘Illuminati’. So we basically have is a very corrupted esoteric religious belief, masquerading as a political ideology and party, with hundreds of front groups to hide their actions and work through. This why communism seems more like a twisted religion than a political idea, because it basically is. -R.J.-
